The Texas football program has had an impressive 2023-24 college football season. The Longhorns boast a third-seed standing in the College Football Playoff. The team has a New Year's Sugar Bowl matchup against the mighty Washington football squad. Quinn Ewers has been a large part of Texas' success, and he received high praise from Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer.

Kalen DeBoer is high on star Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers

Coach DeBoer glowed on Ewers' positive attributes in a post-practice press conference:

“I think he just takes command of the offense [and] has continued to improve from a year ago. Been very impressed. He can deliver the ball, put it wherever he wants. We know we'll have our hands full trying to slow Quinn and the offense down,” DeBoer said, per Blake Munroe.

Ewers has taken a great leap for the Longhorns in his sophomore year. He has thrown for 3,161 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2023. Furthermore, he boasts a QBR of 79.0, which ranks him 16th in the nation. If Ewers gets in a good groove, it will be hard to stop Texas' offensive attack.

The Longhorns are not the only ones who deserve respect ahead of the Sugar Bowl.

The Washington football squad has gone undefeated during the 2023-24 season with a 13-0 record. The reigning Pac-12 champions have outstanding players of their own. Senior QB Michael Penix Jr. threw for a whopping 4, 218 yards and 33 TDs for the Huskies during the regular season.

Furthermore, Penix will be assisted by junior WR Rome Odunze, who has amassed 1,428 receiving yards. Texas needs all hands on deck to slow Washington's offense. Nevertheless, the Longhorns will not back down from the challenge.

Texas was able to make one of the final cuts for the College Football Playoff. Quinn Ewers and co. will be sure to be prepared for a tough New Year's battle.
