Week one of the college football season started the year off with a bang. From upsets to blowouts to thrillers, week one had it all, and we get to experience another action-packed weekend of college football again this Saturday. The game of the week features #11 Texas football hitting the road to take on #3 Alabama football in Tuscaloosa. ESPN's College Gameday is going to be there, and if it's anything like last year's matchup between Texas and Alabama, we're in for a treat.
Texas football and Alabama football played last season at Texas, and it was one of the best games of the college football season. The Crimson Tide were ranked #1 at the time and the Longhorns were unranked, but Texas was extremely close to pulling off the major upset. Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers left the game in the first half due to an injury, and it seemed unlikely that the Longhorns could keep it close with their backup in, but Texas ended up finding themselves with the lead with just a couple of minutes left in the game. All the Longhorns needed was one stop to get the win, but Bryce Young led Alabama down the field to set up a field goal with just a few seconds left that won the game for the Crimson Tide.
This game is expected to be another good one. Alabama comes into the game as the favorite, with the line currently favoring the Crimson Tide by a touchdown. Texas will have to bring their A game to compete in this grueling road test. Here are three bold predictions for the Longhorns this weekend.
Quinn Ewers will account for at least three touchdowns
If Quinn Ewers didn't get injured in last year's game against Alabama, the result may have been different. Now, Ewers gets another shot against the Crimson Tide, and the fact that he couldn't help his team last season will certainly be on his mind. He knows how close his team was to getting the win a year ago, and he knows that he can be the difference maker this time around. Expect Ewers to have a big game this weekend.
Xavier Worthy will have over 125 receiving yards
If Quinn Ewers is going to have a big game, Xavier Worthy likely will too. Worthy had some big time catches in last year's game, and he is typically Ewers' favorite target. Worthy is quick and can find ways to create separation from his defender, and he can also win 50/50 balls when he is being covered tightly. He is one of the best wide receivers in college football, and the best players shine brightest on the biggest stages. Worthy is going to have a nice performance on Saturday.
Texas will pull off the upset
What's the fun in the picking the favorite? Texas has the talent to beat this Alabama team and they showed that last year when the Longhorns had their backup QB facing the top overall draft pick, Bryce Young, and still almost won the game. Now, the Longhorns have Quinn Ewers healthy, and the Crimson Tide will be playing Jalen Milroe in just his second career start. Texas has the weapons and experience to win this game, especially on offense. If the defense performs like they did last season against Alabama, Texas can come out of Tuscaloosa with a win.
