Star Wars Wookiee, Jedi Kelnacca, will soon be available as an exciting new comic book.

Kelnacca is one of the key characters in the new Disney+ series The Acolyte, which is out today. Gizmodo reports that Joonas Suotamo plays the character who took over the role of Chewbacca for the live-action part. However, once this new comic hits shelves, the Wookiee will also be depicted as drawings.

The Jedi Master will be featured in the High Republic era of the SWU, which is set 100 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode 1—The Phantom Menace. What makes the Wookiee so unique is the first Wookiee Jedi in a live-action setting.

That said, it’s such an essential character that it’s getting the comic book treatment from Marvel.

What Marvel’s Kelnacca comic will include

The comic book will give us all more insight into the character and where he came from. It’s a one-shot comic written by Cavan Scott and featuring art by Marika Cresta. The new comic is set to fill in the gap between The High Republic novels and comics to The Acolyte.

Scott told i09, “It’s been so exciting to draw a line from The Acolyte back to The High Republic era we’ve been building in comics, books, audio and animation.”

He added, “Kelnacca is the perfect character to bridge the gap between the time of Leslye Headland’s spectacular series to the age of Starlight Beacon, the threat of Marchion Ro, and the marauding Nihil. In this comic, we will learn more about one of the most intriguing aspects of Kelnacca’s design: the meaning behind those mysterious tattoos. Along the way we’ll see the struggle of a Padawan and a master who is stoic, wise, and ultimately, a true practitioner of Light and Life.”

A neat aspect of the new Star Wars Kelnacca comic is that it will have one main cover and two variant covers from artists Phil Noto, Björn Barends, and Takashi Okazaki. One features the character closer up; another features him further back in a battle stance, and the other has a more abstract look at him with a lightsaber.

With the new series now available and comics on the way, it begs the question: What order do you view the Star Wars franchise? Is it best to watch when things are released? Or chronologically? Maybe read everything that’s out there before even watching anything?

One thing to note is The Acolyte takes place before anything else in Star Wars live-action history, replacing The Phantom Menace. This new eight-episode series focuses on the hunt for an assassin lurking around the galaxy intending to kill a set of Jedi. Plus, the assassin could be associated with the Sith, who was considered dead.

Ultimately, it’s up to you, the viewer, to decide how to consume everything. There doesn’t seem to be a wrong way of going about it. It’s just a matter of putting all of the piecing together at some point and knowing where things land so they make sense as you move along.

Whatever order you watch Star Wars in, it’s great to have the world ever-expanding, even though it’s getting farther away from the Skywalkers storyline. It seems it can go anywhere, with intriguing characters like the Wookiee Jedi.

Be sure to check out The Acolyte on Disney+ and grab a copy of Kelnacca when it hits the shelves on September 4.
