After playing several seasons in Portland as Damian Lillard's backcourt mate, CJ McCollum's tenure on the Trail Blazers could be coming to an end this summer. With the Lakers looking to add more talent around LeBron James and Anthony Davis this summer, a trade for CJ McCollum could easily happen.

Especially with the Blazers looking for new blood to place around Lillard and the Lakers looking to add a third star to play with James and Davis. During the 2021 NBA offseason the Blazers and Lakers will both look to re-tool their rosters and get their stars some much-need help. With all this in mind, let's take an in-depth look at the perfect trade the Lakers must offer the Blazers for CJ McCollum.

Lakers Proposed trade:

Lakers receive: CJ McCollum, Robert Covington

Blazers receive from Lakers: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, and two future first round draft picks

In this proposed trade, the Lakers get a former all-star and elite combo guard in CJ McCollum to pair with LeBron James and Anthony Davis while the Trail Blazers get more youth and athleticism to surround Damian Lillard with as well as a couple of future draft picks. This is a trade where both teams would come out on top and change the make up of their rosters while looking to stay in the postseason mix in the ultra-competitive Western Conference.

On the Lakers, McCollum would get a fresh start playing for the 2020 NBA Champions while giving the Lakers a ton of help in their backcourt with his scoring, playmaking, and facilitating. This would provide massive help and lessen the offensive load for James and Davis. McCollum also provides them with a long overdue upgrade in their backcourt, providing them with a clutch guard who's got great handles, can create his own shot, and create opportunities for his teammates as well.

LA would also be getting a versatile interior defender and sound 3-point shooter in Robert Covington, who has been a stellar role player on every team he's played for throughout his young career. With the Lakers eagerness to add new talent while maximizing James' championship window, this is a move that gets them back on the right track.

CJ McCollum also gives them another all-star caliber player to pair with Davis when James retires. Trading for McCollum would be an absolute plus for the Lakers, and if they are to pursue him this summer then this is the deal they need to propose to make it happen.

For the Trail Blazers, they would get some relief and gain exciting young talent to help out Lillard. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kyle Kuzma, and Montrezl Harrell are highly productive players that will bolster the Blazers rotation and allow Lillard to run more effective offensive sets while also giving them stronger rebounding and better ball movement.

Having two future first round draft picks also gives them an avenue to landing their next all-star when the time comes for them to rebuild and start the post-Lillard era. This deal allows the Blazers to rid themselves of McCollum's massive contract while opening up exciting new possibilities for the future of their franchise.
