Following months of build up, the mega fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin lived up to the hype despite the controversial judge scoring cards.

After the match, Alvarez posted a photo on his Instagram account hanging out with Oklahoma City Thunder star guard Russell Westbrook in Las Vegas.

There is clearly a great deal of respect from both professional athletes given what they have accomplished in their own sport up to this point in their respective careers. Westbrook posted on his Snapchat that he was in attendance for the fight at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night.

All the controversy aside, Alvarez and Golvokin put forth an entertaining match that saw both fighters have big moments in the bout. There were strong moments for each fighter that made the judges' decision that much more of an issue.

That said, it has been a common ground for athletes from various sports to share a unique bond away from their professions. There have been many NBA players that have become huge supporters of certain boxers over the years.

In this case, reigning league MVP is no different as he clearly holds much respect for Alvarez and what he can do in the ring.
