Carmelo Anthony's son; Kiyan, played an even bigger role than one imagined in getting the former New York Knicks star to drop his no-trade clause for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

While now-teammates Russell Westbrook and Paul George were largely credited with convincing him to come westward and join them, family often plays a huge part on a player's decision.

“My son said he wanted me to play for OKC,” Anthony told Marc Stein of The New York Times. “Even before OKC was in the picture.’’

Kiyan has been taking pointers from his All-Star father during the past few seasons, watching the NBA religiously and applying the knowledge into his own game.

“My son has a basketball mind,” Anthony said. “So I will always throw little topics at him. He was like, ‘Dad, where you getting traded to?’ I told him, ‘I don’t know, where do you think I should go?’ He said: ‘You really want me to give you my opinion? I think you should go to OKC.’

“It worked out.”

Melo dropped not only his unique no-trade clause, but also a 15 percent trade kicker to facilitate the move to the Thunder, allowing for the coalition of talent between him, Westbrook, and George.
