Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook had his league-leading 17th technical foul rescinded, the league announced Tuesday.

Westbrook picked up technical no. 17 during Sunday's loss to the Dallas Mavericks, which moved him one game closer to serving another one-game suspension. Once a player reaches 16 technical fouls, they earn a one-game suspension for every subsequent two technicals that are assessed.

Here was the play in which Westbrook earned a T:

Westbrook's immediate incredulous reaction seems to show that he was as taken aback by the call as the other players on the floor. With that said, it doesn't come as a huge surprise that the league decided to take the tech back, thereby keeping Westbrook off the fence from earning himself another absence.

The Thunder, currently holding the no.8 seed in the Western Conference, enter play against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday. All eight playoff spots are sewn up and it's just a matter of seeding the clubs at this point.

With five games remaining on their schedule, the Thunder could still climb as high as No. 5 (having been as high as No. 3 before a March slide), but they'll likely be jockeying San Antonio on the 7-8 line over the final few games barring a rough finish from either the Utah Jazz or Los Angeles Clippers.

Russell Westbrook is closing in on his third consecutive season of having averaged a triple-double for the entire year. He is also on pace to cruise to another assists per game (10.4) crown, but the more hotly contested race will be for the league lead in technicals — something he looks to stay away from over the final five outings.
