The Oklahoma City Thunder have picked up head coach Billy Donovan's option for the 2019-20 campaign, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The option represents the fifth year on his original deal he signed back in 2015.

Since taking over the Thunder ahead of the 2015-16 campaign, Donovan has gone 168-106, making him the fourth-winningest coach behind Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich and Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens over that span.

Donovan has taken Oklahoma City to the playoffs in each of his first three full years as coach, making it all the way to the Western Conference Finals in 2016 before falling to the 73-win Warriors in seven games.

The last two years, Donovan has not seen as much playoff success, as the Thunder were eliminated in the first round each of the last two postseasons.

Through two months this season, Oklahoma City owns a record of 18-10, good for third place in the West. The Thunder are just a game and a half behind the Denver Nuggets for first place and are just one game behind them in the loss column.

Donovan was hired as head coach of the Thunder after a very successful run as head coach of the Florida Gators basketball team, leading Florida to back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007.

He coached the Gators for 19 years, and during that span, he also received interest from the Orlando Magic, but decided to stay at Florida. However, once the OKC job opened up, Donovan was amenable to leaving his roots to take on the challenge of the NBA.
