One of the greatest NBA players of all time is making an interesting comparison. Kevin Garnett compared Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to rapper 50 Cent when appearing on the SHOWTIME Basketball show.

It's obviously a strong statement, comparing OKC's point guard to one of the greatest rappers of the 21st century. Gilgeous-Alexander is making his mark with the franchise, however. He averaged a career-high 31 points in the 2022-23 season, and his offensive output has only gone up since he's been in the league. As a rookie in 2018-19 with the Clippers, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged nearly 11 points a game. It's quite impressive to be able to triple that scoring output in just four years.

It's not just his scoring that's increased, either. Gilgeous-Alexander is also becoming an even more unselfish player by increasing his average in assists. He averaged more than five dimes per game the last three seasons, a marked improvement from his first two years in the league when he averaged just over three a game.

50 Cent and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have another thing in common: working hard to prove they are the best. Both the rapper and the young basketball star had to overcome long odds to get where they are today. Gilgeous-Alexander was traded after his rookie season with the Clippers, and 50 Cent had to spend several years hustling to get his music out before he found success with his 2003 album Get Rich or Die Tryin'.

In the future, it might not be a surprise to see 50 Cent sitting courtside at a Thunder game, or to see Shai Gilgeous-Alexander join 50 Cent on stage at a future concert.
