It had been reported on Saturday afternoon that veteran guard Trey Burke was nearing a deal to join the Oklahoma City Thunder.

However, Shams Charania of The Vertical is now reporting that Burke has changed his mind and has decided to remain an unrestricted free agent.

This decision could have been affected by the Thunder's acquisition of All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony earlier in the day. Burke was on track to potentially compete for the backup spot behind reigning league MVP Russell Westbrook next season.

Burke now re-enters the free-agent market just a few days until the start of training camp for the upcoming season. Since being drafted with the ninth overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, Burke has struggled to live up to the lofty expectations of a lottery pick as he's become relegated to a limited role off the bench.

The 24-year-old is coming off his least productive season in his lone campaign with the Washington Wizards putting up career lows across the board with 5.0 points and 1.8 assists in 12.3 minutes per game in 57 games played without recording a single start.

Trey Burke had only received interest from the Orlando Magic earlier this offseason and things had remained quiet on his front over the last few weeks. However, things could heat up for him in the next few days with teams across the league preparing their rosters for training camp.
