Remember when it seemed like Paul George's tenure as one of the league's best players was suddenly over? Us neither. The Oklahoma City Thunder superstar continued putting the horrific leg injury he suffered in 2014 behind him with another MVP-worthy performance against the Utah Jazz, one highlighted by this thunderous windmill dunk in overtime of a tight game versus a budding rival.
Filthy.
Even better? The 6-foot-8 swingman had 45 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in his team's 148-147 double-overtime victory. This marks the third time in his last four games that George has scored at least 45 points; he scored at least 37 points in three of the Thunder's previous four games before this scintillating stretch began.
Needless to say, the All-Star starter further fortified his burgeoning MVP case, and not just with numbers and highlight-reel dunks. George also tied the game in regulation with a side-stepping three-pointer as the game clock read just over a minute remaining, and hit a wild, off-balance, high-arching floater that put his team ahead for good with 1.6 seconds left in the second extra session.
It's much too early to decide the MVP race. Neither Giannis Antetokounmpo nor James Harden seems primed to slow down anytime soon, with both the Milwaukee Bucks and Houston Rockets poised to fight for playoff positioning into April.
But if we had a vote today? It would be increasingly difficult to overlook George.
