While many stars are in line for getting their own signature kicks to debut in the league over the next few years, Adidas has had its reservations about giving up-and-coming dynamo Andrew Wiggins his own signature line.

Just like Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, the 22-year-old shooting guard plays for a small market team, but his demeanor has failed to propel him into stardom at the type of prominence that the Greek Freak now boasts in the league.

Per ESPN's Nick De Paula:

“The brand had hoped that Timberwolves rising phenom Andrew Wiggins could fill that role, but internally there has been strong hesitation about whether Wiggins could carry his own signature shoe.

Antetokounmpo’s game is already more established and more accomplished, leading the company to look at making a massive offer that could steal him away from Nike.”

Adidas has yet to have a signature line by an NBA forward, a spot that Antetokounmpo is likely to take if the brand can offer more money than Nike, his current shoe company, is willing to shell out to retain him.

Wiggins has taken major leaps season-after-season, developing into one of the best scorers in the league, but Antetokounmpo's all-around play and highlight-reel arsenal have surpassed the barriers of a small market team and vaulted him into immediate stardom over the past couple of seasons, making him one of the best candidates to earn his very own signature shoe deal, earning up to 5 percent of all shoe sales.
