Minnesota Timberwolves small forward Andrew Wiggins won't play in Friday's preseason game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Wiggins is expecting the birth of his first child.

Friday's game is the Timberwolves' preseason finale. Minnesota opens the 2018-19 regular season on Oct. 17 versus the San Antonio Spurs. Wiggins will likely be available for that game.

Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that Timberwolves All-Star small forward Jimmy Butler returned to practice Wednesday and caused quite the stir. The four-time All-Star reportedly went out of his way to challenge Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns, and also cursed out head coach/president Tom Thibodeau and general manager Scott Layden.

Butler is uncertain about playing with Wiggins and had issues with Wiggins’ work ethic and approach on defense last season. After averaging a career-high 23.6 points per game during the 2016-17 campaign, Wiggins’ scoring output dropped to 17.7 last year with the addition of Butler. The former No. 1 overall pick signed a five-year deal worth in excess of $146 million in the summer of 2017.

Some time away from Butler and Timberwolves should be good for Wiggins. This is a special time for him and his family, and he should enjoy it. Hopefully he'll be able to come back with a clear mind.
