Despite the fact that he's staying away from the Minnesota Timberwolves after his trade demand, Jimmy Butler has remained in touch with some of his Wolves teammates.

The Butler saga continues to unfold slowly and there is still immense uncertainty surrounding Minnesota. However, there doesn't seem to be a trade on the horizon, leaving the door open for Butler to return to the Timberwolves.

And according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, although Butler is determined to get out of the team, he has kept in communication with some of his teammates over the past weeks.

“Butler was in Los Angeles hanging out last week when the Wolves were in town to face the Clippers. He dined with several teammates and has been texting players like Taj Gibson and Josh Okogie with messages of encouragement while he has been away. But he remains determined to force a move and is hopeful a deal is struck before the season begins so he can get back on the court and get going, sources said.”

The Wolves are yet to reach a deal and the longer this goes on, the less leverage they have. It's obvious that Butler doesn't want to play another game in a Timberwolves jersey. That being said, it still feels like Tom Thibodeau is angling to bring Butler back for this season.

If Butler does return to the team, it will certainly be an awkward situation, though the fact that he's keeping in touch with his teammates leaves the door slightly ajar. It's still a long shot that we ever see Butler in a Minnesota jersey ever again, but it's not impossible.
