The Minnesota Timberwolves have been bad throughout nearly all of Karl-Anthony Towns' tenure, which has naturally prompted chatter about whether or not he'll soon seek a trade. While other teams can daydream about KAT trade scenarios, as of right now, he seems content in Minnesota.

The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski joined Michael Scotto on the HoopsHype podcast to talk about Towns' situation. Here's how Krawczynski described it:

I do understand why plenty of executives around the league are monitoring the situation closely. Towns has been in Minnesota for six years. He’s only made the playoffs one year. The team in general has really struggled the past couple of years. He went through injuries, he’s gone through losing his mother and some other family members to Covid. It’s just been kind of a miserable existence really for the last few years. That said, from everything that I’ve been able to glean from Towns, his camp, and the Timberwolves themselves, I don’t think there’s anything imminent in terms of any kind of a trade request or things of that nature. He’s got three years left on his contract, which obviously the Timberwolves want to keep a player of his talent around.

Krawczynski went on to talk about how Towns appreciates how the Timberwolves have been there for him over the course of a tough year filled with grief. He's also happy to be teammates with his good friend D'Angelo Russell and phenom Anthony Edwards.

While Minnesota has a wretched 21-47 record on the season, there have been more flashes of potential under new head coach Chris Finch. Edwards has made a strong Rookie of the Year push, while Towns and Russell finally got healthy.

The Western Conference is tough, but the Timberwolves could make a leap up the standings if things break right for them next season. If that happens, it's hard to see Towns going anywhere, even with teams like the New York Knicks sniffing around.
