After two seasons with the team, the Tennessee Titans are expected to release 29-year-old running back Dion Lewis.
Lewis signed a four-year, $20 million deal with the Titans in 2018 and per ESPN's Turon Davenport, the team could cut the change of pace back in order to free up some cap space.
Prior to joining the Titans, Lewis spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots. Lewis enjoyed a breakout season in 2017 with the Patriots recording 1,110 total yards and nine touchdowns for the eventual AFC champions.
As for Lewis' career in Tennessee, the veteran back's lack of size (5-foot-8, 195 pounds) hindered his overall potential as he was relegated to a backup role behind star running back Derrick Henry.
After making seven starts and recording 917 yards from scrimmage in his first year as a Titan, Lewis' role was greatly reduced in 2019.
This season, Lewis managed to only make one start and carried the ball a total of 54 times for 209 yards. The former fifth-round pick was still involved in the passing game catching 25 balls for 164 yards and a touchdown.
The emergence of Henry as an absolute superstar undoubtedly lessened the team's need for a player like Lewis.
If Lewis is released, the Titans list rookie running back/fullback Khari Blasingame as third on the team's depth chart. Tennessee signed the former Vanderbilt product off the Minnesota Viking's practice squad during the 2019 bye week.
Blasingame appeared in six games for the Titans in 2019 registering four catches off five targets for 54 yards.
