Total War fans didn't take it kindly when Total War Three Kingdoms devs revealed they're abandoning the game. In a developer update video released last Thursday, Creative Assembly excitedly revealed that they are working on a new game set in the Three Kingdoms period of Ancient China. However, this comes at the cost of completely shutting off the future of Total War Three Kingdoms.
“With Fates Divided (the game's seventh and final DLC), we've completed our content for Total War Three Kingdoms,” says Game Director Jack Lusted. “It's now time to turn our attention to a new project in this amazing historic tale.”
The development team then gave very vague details on their next project. Apart from being set in the Three Kingdoms era, no other concrete details have been discussed on how the game will be like. They also referenced other historical projects that they are working on aside from Three Kingdoms. Once the final patch of the game arrives in the near future, that's going to be it for Total War Three Kingdoms.

However, fans didn't appreciate this honest and transparent announcement by the devs. Many fans feel betrayed by how Creative Assembly seemingly abandoned the game, with some promises left unfulfilled. One example is the promise to flesh out the northern part of the map, a promise made way back in July 2020. The last few DLCs of the game have also very negative reviews, mostly because of bugs and compatibility issues. Fans felt Creative Assembly should have spent a little bit more time fixing these issues before moving on.
To show their displeasure, fans review-bombed the game on Steam, with the game having an Overwhelmingly Negative recent reviews score. However, it barely made a dent on the game's strong reviews, with its all-time reviews still at Mostly Positive. The dev video update also currently has a 2.9K:7.9K likes-to-dislikes ratio, out of the video's almost 140,000 views on Youtube. The devs' pinned comment also got trolled by commenters, maintaining the number of likes on the pinned comment at 666 for a short while.
