Harry Kane's future in North London might be in doubt, but at least Tottenham has brought in a defensive reinforcement after Toby Alderweireld left for Qatar. Per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Argentine defender Cristian Romero has officially joined Spurs from Serie A outfit Atalanta:

As mentioned above, Tottenham snatched up Romero for a total of €55 million. He's been a player who they've been chasing all summer. The 23-year-old emerged as the best center-back in Italy last term, winning best defender in Serie A.

Spurs first laid eyes on Cristian Romero after Fabio Paratici was appointed as director of football, previously holding the title at Juventus. In Turin, Paratici briefly signed the Argentina international in 2019, but then loaned him out to former club Genoa then Atalanta, where he ultimately joined the Bergamo-based side on a full-time basis.

Romero is a physical presence at the back and isn't afraid to put his body on the line. His style of play should fit perfectly in the Premier League as he's also gifted when it comes to aerial duels. Cristian Romero typically plays in the middle of a back three and will likely slot in beside Eric Dier or Joe Rodon. However, Tottenham is still keen on signing another center-back before the summer window concludes.

Fantastic work by Spurs to get this deal over the line.
