The sudden and unexpected emergence of the Tulane football program under head coach Willie Fritz has been one of the more enjoyable stories to watch unfold over the last two years. Just a season ago, Tulane earned a New Year's Six bowl invite and they made the most of it, coming away with a thrilling 46-45 win over USC in the Cotton Bowl. Now, the Green Wave are on the verge of securing another berth into a marquee bowl game, as they've finished their regular season with an 11-1 record and will play SMU in the AAC Championship game. But could Willie Fritz soon be on his way out of New Orleans?

Tulane would love to keep Willie Fritz in the Big Easy, but with no shortage of attractive jobs opening up (some jobs, like Texas A&M, have already been closed), Fritz wasn't shy about enjoying the position that he's currently in.

“You kind of hope you are in this position every year. That means things are going pretty well,” Fritz responded after he was asked about his name being mentioned as a candidate for various head coaching openings, per Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle. Fritz went on to say that he planned to wait until after the AAC Championship game to talk with any schools, including Houston, which has an opening now after firing Dana Holgorsen.

Could Willie Fritz be Houston bound? Perhaps. Fritz does have some familiarity coaching in the state of Texas, leading Sam Houston State to back-to-back FCS Championship game appearances in 2011 and 2012. It would be an awfully attractive job for Fritz to take, given Houston's recent move to the Big 12.
