Chase Sherman had managed to climb his way back up to the UFC after going back to the regional scene. He was able to make his debut for the promotion and win it with a big knockout.
Things soured after that when he was fined $5,000 by the Athletic Commission for a failed drug test. The UFC's drug-testing agency, USADA, was surprisingly enough, the one who defended Chase Sherman.
“USADA went to bat for me, they spoke to the commission and explained to them that it wasn’t anything performance-enhancing,” Sherman explained to MMA Junkie and other reporters at UFC pre-fight media day on Wednesday. “In a sense, I was getting suspended for a failure to disclose, and that it was prior to ever being in competition, or being signed by the UFC. Apparently, the commission didn’t care and they slapped a big $5,000 fine on my check and just took it out.
“I didn’t know that was going to happen and Sean (Shelby) walked up to me and told me. He was like, ‘Yeah, sorry man.’ But you know, whatever. It’s just money.”
Chase Sherman was made about the situation because the commission told him he would be losing $5,000 from his fight purse before his UFC fight. He would have reacted better had it come after.
Chase Sherman now has other things to worry about as he takes on Jake Collier in a heavyweight slugfest at UFC Vegas 46. The bout is expected to be a fun one between the two UFC veterans.
