Hope Solo, former US women's soccer star, was arrested Thursday, per to Sports Illustrated. Solo is facing multiple charges including resisting arrest, misdemeanor child abuse, and DWI.

The news was first reported by TMZ. According to the news outlet, Solo was pulled over and taken into custody in a Walmart parking lot in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She also had two young children in the car. The 40-year-old was taken to Forsyth County Jail for processing and was released shortly afterward.

The former soccer star's lawyer Rich Nichols released a statement on the incident Friday afternoon.

“On the advice of counsel, Hope can’t speak about this situation, but she wants everyone to know that her kids are her life, that she was released immediately and is now at home with her family, that the story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest, and that she looks forward to her opportunity to defend these charges,” Solo's representative wrote.

It's unclear whether or not the two children in the car at the time were her two-year-old twins. However, Nichols' statement makes it seem like it.

This isn't the first time that the women's soccer star has been arrested. Solo was arrested back in June of 2014 and charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault in the fourth degree. In May of 2018, all domestic violence charges against her were dropped.
