The Tennessee Volunteers haven't exactly been world-beaters during the era of Butch Jones. The head coach likely knows this. It is maybe why — or, at least, partially why — Butch Jones went absolutely bonkers at a press conference.

Please note: He did the entire “fake news” bit, lashed out on the media in general, and this is usually what happens when unchecked power (barely) gets checked.

What is somewhat strange about Jones going bonkers now, as opposed to another time in his career, is that the Vols are actually 3-1 at the moment. Although, it isn't as if those three wins were easy or so impressive people are claiming Tennessee to back.

The entire bit in the video was prompted when Jones was asked about an injury to defensive tackle Shy Tuttle. Tuttle suffered a broken orbital bone. Asked about a rumor that Tuttle was injured by a teammate, Jones launched into a rant that included chastising the media for “fake news.”

Jones claims this is about the media focusing more on the negative within the program (or in general) as opposed to the positive. Generally speaking, he is likely correct about that. However, the messenger matters when things like this are being said.

It is 2017. The media has come under fire from “many sides” for roughly two years at this point. For a college football coach to play into that, while claiming too much negative press happens, is pretty ironic.

Honestly, it is like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife.

Alanis!
