The Charlotte Hornets had a big night on Wednesday, as they took the Washington Wizards to the woodshed with a 133-109 win at home. As what the score suggests, the game was a total blowout with the Hornets taking advantage of Washington’s lackadaisical effort on defense and benefiting from their hot-shooting night from beyond the arc.

The Hornets virtually had the win in the bag even before the fourth quarter started, but perhaps the most entertaining moment in the contest happened when Charlotte was already up by 22 points with just four minutes left in regulation. That was when Dwight Howard, who was already sitting on the bench, was chosen by Washington head coach Scott Brooks to take the pair of three-throws originally intended for Michael Carter-Williams. Carter-Williams was ejected from the game along with Tim Frazier in the previous play, giving Brooks the privilege of choosing anyone on the Hornets’ lineup to complete Carter-Williams foul shots.

Unfortunately for Brooks and the Wizards, their move blew up on their faces, as Howard, a 52.8 percent free-throw shooter this season, sank both freebies. Just to bury the Wizards deeper in ignominy, Howard blew a kiss towards Washington’s bench afterward.

Dwight Howard finished the game with a customary double-double performance of 18 points and 15 rebounds. Overall, he shot 4-of-5 from the charity stripe.

The Hornets, who went 15-of-31 from the three-point area against Washington and shot 49.0 percent from the field, will look to extend their win streak to three games on Saturday at home against the Miami Heat.
