The Oklahoma City Thunder avoided getting upset at home by the Sacramento Kings Monday with a 95-88 win. That would not be enough, however, for Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook to prevent him from going down in statistical infamy. While Westbrook had a near triple-double of 19 points, 16 rebounds, and nine assists, he repeatedly shot the Thunder’s offense in the foot with a total of 10 turnovers.

Westbrook could have added more to his collection of turnovers, but he was tossed out of the game late in the fourth quarter for arguing a call following his 10th and final miscue (traveling) of the night.

It was the sixth time since last season in which the reigning NBA MVP had at least 10 turnovers in a game, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Russell Westbrook leads the NBA in usage percentage among players with at least 10 games played this season, so it only follows that he would be prone to turning the ball over plenty of times in a game. Westbrook is second in the league in turnovers per game with 4.6 per game. Still, getting 10 turnovers in a game is never acceptable. Westbrook has to find a way to be more efficient with the ball, especially because Oklahoma City is one of the 11 teams in the league that averages fewer than 100 possessions per contest.

Westbrook, who is averaging 25.1 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 9.6 assists per game, will look to correct his ways this Wednesday, when the Thunder host the visiting Los Angeles Lakers at home.
