In a game that had plenty of playoff implications hanging in the balance on both sides, the Tennessee Titans were able to squeeze out a 25-16 win over the Washington Redskins on Saturday night.
It was a tightly contested game throughout that came down to the final minutes of the fourth quarter with the Redskins moving the ball down the field with a chance to tie it or take the lead. However, Washington saw their chances dashed after quarterback Josh Johnson threw an errant pass that was intercepted by safety Kevin Byard.
The throw made by Johnson was completely off the mark as he overthrew wide receiver Josh Doctson for an easy interception for Byard. He had been rushed to make the throw as he had some immediate pressure in his face that didn't give him enough time to place the ball in the right spot. This allowed Byard to swoop in to make the play with it being thrown in his direction of coverage.
The Titans gave the ball back to the Redskins for one more chance, but on the second play of their drive, Johnson was intercepted for the second time with this time it being returned for a touchdown by cornerback Malcolm Bulter as time expired. This loss all but eliminates the Redskins from the playoff picture heading into the final week of the season.
Meanwhile, Tennessee remains in the thick of things with their chances laying solely on the Baltimore Ravens dropping one of their final two games of the regular season. The Ravens are set to take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday night.
