Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is finally getting the chance to get acquainted with his new teammates during OTAs. Establishing a rapport with his new receivers ahead of the season will be particularly important.

Cousins just so happens to have two very talented wideouts in Minnesota with All-Pro Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs at his disposal. However, it seems as if tight end Kyle Rudolph has made quite the first impression on the new Vikings QB as seen in this video where Cousins exclaims that throwing to the “friendly target” Rudolph is “like throwing into a mattress” (at the 0:48 mark):

While not known as one of the premier receiving tight ends in the league, Rudolph did just have a career year in 2016 when he had 83 catches for 840 yards and seven touchdowns. But even though he did improve his touchdown totals with eight last year, his other numbers dipped to just 57 catches and 532 yards as Thielen took on a bigger role in the offense.

Don’t rule out an increased role for Rudolph this year with Cousins now at the helm, though. Cousins liked throwing to his tight ends-Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis-during his time in Washington, which could be something new offensive coordinator John DeFilippo incorporates into the new offense.

As Rudolph showed with his mattress-soft touch, he’s more than capable of being one of Cousins’ favorite targets in his debut season. With more time to work on their chemistry, both of them could end up helping one another to have big years.
