Draymond Green does not plan on having a slow start in 2019-20 like the one he had last season. He's now equipped with the same diet he used to shed 30 pounds at the end of the regular season, tuning him into a lean, mean, shot-blocking machine during the 2019 playoffs. The Golden State Warriors forward insists he's back on a regimen, planning to attack a very different 2019-20 season with a new type of hunger:

“I’m back on my playoff diet,” Green said with a grin during an interview with Mark Medina of USA TODAY Sports.

Green was plagued by a toe injury at the beginning of the season, which led to him packing on the pounds and getting off to a slow start.

Following a roster overhaul in the wake of Kevin Durant's departure from Golden State, the Warriors' emotional leader has followed some intense training sessions that revolved between core strength, lower body mobility, and on-court work.

A day before the start of training camp, Green pledged to abstain entirely from liquor and junk food for the entirety of the season — a promise that should bode wonders for a chance to regain a spot as an All-Star player:

“I’m using it to get all the way into game shape, to hone everything in and get my feel back,” said Green. “It will allow me to attack the preseason the way I have in the past, as opposed to last year where it was kind of a disaster.”

Green signed a four-year, $100 million extension in the summer, a fair price for his commitment to being one of the cornerstones of this franchise moving forward. He explained why he did it:

“I didn't want to come into this season dealing with all of that stuff. It kind of becomes a headache,” Green said at the Warriors' Media Day on Monday. “It definitely played a little part in it, and just understanding what was best for myself and my family and for this organization. I've said it a million times now – I want to be here for my entire career. What makes that possible? What makes that more realistic? I think this did.”

The Warriors will need Green at full tilt and hungry for wins instead of fries, as it will be on him, Stephen Curry, and D'Angelo Russell to keep the ship afloat until Klay Thompson's awaited return at some point through the All-Star break.
