No matter what you consider Kevin Durant to be, he is without a doubt a lover of the game he played his entire life. He grew up with basketball, and the sport allows him to live experiences many can only dream of.

Through all the criticism Durant receives for making moves to the Golden State Warriors, he manages to find a bright light to focus on in social media. When he is not busy controlling multiple accounts on Twitter, Durant recently admitted he enjoys using his robust social media platform for a unique interactive experience for fans.

“There are guys on Instagram that I would DM through the summer and I would school them on basketball,” Durant told Bleacher Report. “I'm talking about little kids, probably 10-, 11-year-old kids, like, ‘What were you thinking when you shot that shot in the Finals?' I don't mind talking to them. That's the good part of having this platform and also being who I am. You can also influence people to love the game.”

In today's new media landscape, one would think a person like that would stay away from their social media inboxes, as they are certainly flooded with messages. Nonetheless, Durant uses it as a means to educate the next generation of basketball players.

Maybe one day in the future, young players entering the NBA will admit they were inspired by KD shooting them a DM back when they were kids.
