Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson has a lot of friends on the team, but his best friend may be his dog, Rocco.

The relationship between Thompson and Rocco is well-documented. Thompson even received a birthday cake recently that was shaped like Rocco wearing his blue Warriors jersey. Thompson is on record saying that when he gets home from a Warriors win, he and his dog celebrate.

In a recent interview, Thompson was asked if he ever played one-on-one with Rocco, and his response was quite hilarious, per Alysha Tsuji of USA Today's For the Win.

That is actually a funny question. He’s a great dude to do dribbling drills with. He’s a ball hog. Something about him and leather, whether it’s a football or basketball, it makes him go crazy. Football, basketball, skateboard, I’m like man, should I train him better? I think it’s just any breed where he wants to pop that ball so bad. He’s great to do dribbling drills with.

A follow-up question to Thompson asked if Rocco was a good defender. His response?

“He really is.”

Dogs are man's best friend, and have been described as such for decades — maybe even centuries. It always seemed like a cheeky phrase to undermine the true best pet in the world, cats.

But the bond Thompson and Rocco share appears to be real, and it's touching to see that type of relationship anywhere, not only just between NBA players and their pets. For some reason, Rocco and Thompson's friendship has reached a whole level with the publicity it has gotten.

Thompson even partnered with his shoe company, Anta, to make a Rocco-themed shoe for him, which was released recently. It's safe to say that no other athlete in the world has done that.

Rocco would be proud.
