As the Golden State Warriors took down the Phoenix Suns on Christmas, a new Warriors addition shined. Quinndary Weatherspoon, who was signed to a 10-day contract just two days ago, had a showtime sequence with Juan Toscano-Anderson and scored six points in 14 minutes without missing a shot while providing great defensive energy.

Weatherspoon said after the game that he wasn't even sure if he was going to play. He ended up playing 14 minutes off the bench for the Warriors in the close victory.

Weatherspoon made a name for himself with his terrific defense on Klay Thompson as he spent time rehabbing with the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State's G League affiliate. Both head coach Steve Kerr and Thompson attested to his talents. Stephen Curry was impressed with his performance in the victory over Phoenix.

Weatherspoon has appeared in 31 games over the past two seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, averaging just 1.9 points per game in 6.4 minutes. Across 37 games in the G League, the guard from Mississippi State has averaged 14.9 points and 5.1 assists while shooting 45.6 percent from the field.

The undermanned Warriors picked the right guy to aid their bench, as Weatherspoon played a solid supporting role in a win against one of the NBA's best teams. Golden State may look to send him back down to the G League, but they could also choose to keep him around, as they have done with fellow call-up Gary Payton II.

Curry has been the main catalyst for the Warriors' success this season, but guys like Weatherspoon who step up are very helpful to the cause.
