Now it can be said again: It's Klay Thompson's world and we're all just living in it. The Golden State Warriors extended their winning streak to nine games on Monday after beating the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Thompson provided the heroics, making timely buckets in the dying minutes, including the dagger three-pointer to stave off the Thunder, 110-98. He finished with 21 points to lead the Warriors.
Thompson's late-game shots reminded many of his iconic Game 6 performance against the Thunder in the 2017 Western Conference Finals. He carried the Warriors to force a do-or-die Game 7, which they eventually won. But when asked by reporters if it crossed his mind on Monday, Thompson gave a characteristic response (via ESPN).
“No, that was a long time ago, although that is a dear memory of mine.”
While the five-time All-Star was quite stoic about his latest performance against the Thunder, Warriors coach Steve Kerr enjoyed witnessing it.
“It was great to see Klay hit those back-to-back threes to kind of seal the win. Just fun to have him back, and he looks great out there. He’s moving great. It’s fun to be able to play him.”
The Warriors will next face the Utah Jazz on Wednesday.
Thompson is still slowly working his way back to peak form, and when that happens, he'll definitely add another game to that dear memory of his.
