Marquese Chriss has been far from the highly touted talent the Phoenix Suns were hoping to get in 2016 after drafting him with the No. 8 overall pick. Following two years in the desert and another split between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Houston Rockets, Chriss now has a chance to resuscitate his short-lived NBA career with a training camp opportunity with the Golden State Warriors.

The 22-year-old forward has been plagued by his own reputation as a disruptive locker room presence, but is hoping to turn it around with this new chance after turning down several two-way deals with NBA teams this summer:

“There’s pressure, but at the same time, there’s not,” Chriss told Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle. “I understand what kind of situation they’re in, so I’m just playing to put myself in the best situation to succeed and to put pressure on them. I want to be the type of person that they want to put on the floor and that they need on their team.”

The 6-foot-10 Chriss is young, athletic, and fits perfectly in a modern NBA that is encouraging players to shoot the ball from the perimeter — fitting the Warriors' blueprint perfectly. Yet with 14 fully guaranteed contracts and a hard cap limiting Golden State, the task ahead is awfully tough for a player hoping to get that NBA chance, which Stephen Curry realizes:

“He’s a guy that’s kind of been bouncing around, but understands he has talent,” said Stephen Curry. “He’s been playing with his head down in training camp so far, just trying to contribute. He has an opportunity, for sure, and I’m excited to see him when he gets out on the court.”

The Warriors have already designated their two two-way spots to guards Ky Bowman and Damion Lee, making Chriss' best chance to stand out in camp and leave the team no choice but to drop Alfonzo McKinnie (who's on a non-guaranteed contract) to get the last available roster spot.

Head coach Steve Kerr has had a strong rapport with McKinnie since he made the team out of training camp last year, which could render the situation rather unlikely. It'll be all systems go for Chriss if he's hoping to move that giant rock that stands in front of his career.
