Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob gave a hint on his hopes of re-signing Kevin Durant in the summer.

Per Marc Stein of the New York Times, Lacob simply said:

“We'll find out.”

Durant is going to be the biggest free agent this summer. Though he will be out for the entire 2019-20 season due to his Achilles injury, most believe that it won't affect his market value at all.

The 30-year-old has a choice to opt-in to his contract with the Warriors for next season at $31.5 million. However, various rumors reveal that teams will be gunning for Durant — especially the New York Knicks who can accommodate two max slots. Other teams include the Brooklyn Nets, L.A. Clippers, and even the Los Angeles Lakers.

Per Bobby Marks of ESPN, if the Warriors are bent on keeping their core players comprised of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Kevin Durant (under a max deal), then they would have to pay some $1.6 billion in luxury taxes in the next four years.

Given these facts, it would be interesting to see how the Warriors executives will navigate through the free agency this summer. Of course, the goal is to win a championship every season. They've done that three times in the last five seasons — a feat that is impressive, to say the least. And in order to win some more, they would have to spend an exorbitant amount of cash. It would be foolish to shortchange the players and hope that they would sign a long-term deal.
