The Golden State Warriors of the late-2010's will forever be considered as one of the greatest dynasties in NBA history. It's not everyday that you have the greatest shooter of all time in Stephen Curry team up with one of the best scorers to have ever picked up a basketball in Kevin Durant. Add the likes of Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Andre Iguodala into the mix and what you have is a team that absolutely dominated the NBA for half a decade.

As they always say, however, all good things must come to an end. This is exactly what happened to the Warriors when Durant decided to jump ship in 2019, just three years after joining the Dubs.

Naturally, the extremely high-profile nature of the squad led to a lot of unwanted noise around the team during KD's spell with the Warriors. One of the most intriguing narratives that the media loved messing around with was the dynamic between Durant and Curry. In particular, how these two alpha males co-existed in the same team. The oversimplified question on a lot of people's minds was about who the true superstar was on the Warriors.

For his part, however, Curry made it abundantly clear that this was not something that bothered him at all:

“Even with conversations with ‘Whose team is it?’ I couldn’t care less,” Curry said, via Logan Murdock of The Ringer. “Straight up. But the commentary is real.”

We all know how ego has never been an issue for Steph and true enough, this did not get in the way of his relationship with Durant. Curry did acknowledge that there was indeed a lot of noise surrounding the team, though, and perhaps, it got to them a little bit. After all, you can only ignore all the whispers for so much.

The Warriors were able to play through it all, however, and most importantly, they found ultimate success. Curry shared the mindset the team took in order to drown out the noise as well as how much appreciation they gave to KD for even joining the Warriors in the first place:

“I think the biggest thing was understanding how big the spotlight was from the jump,” Curry said. “And paying a little bit more respect to how big of a decision that was for him to come here. Because once he made the decision, you almost take for granted … the commentary around the league, media, other teams, all that other stuff that you can’t really avoid. We thought, and we all approached it that we could have our own bunker almost and be kind of sheltered.”

The Warriors dynasty will always be one of the biggest what if's in the history of the league. What if KD never got injured in Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors? What if Klay didn't suffer the same fate the following game? What if the Dubs actually won that title? What if KD never left? These are just some of the most pressing questions that unfortunately, will forever remain unanswered. What we can say without a shadow of a doubt is that it was an absolute privilege to have witnessed the Warriors go on that dynastic run several years ago. That golden era of the Dubs was one for the history books.
