San Francisco, CA – The Golden State Warriors had their biggest challenge of the season against Trae Young and the visiting Atlanta Hawks. Stephen Curry and his team trailed most of the first half and even went down 15 points which tied their biggest deficit this year. The Chase Center wasn't as loud as usual, and it appeared the Warriors might lose their second game of the year. That was until Curry completely took over.
He finished the game with 50 points, and the Warriors ran away with a 127-113 victory. Curry has scored 50 or more points 10 times in his career, but this one he admits was weird.
“When you get it going, you just keep it going, and the game was kind of weird because we got off to a good start, and then Trae (Young) got hot, and they went on a run. We had enough life at the end of the second quarter that got us back into it going into halftime, and the third quarter was awesome,” Curry told ClutchPoints.
In that third quarter, Curry scored 18 of his 50 points, which took the energy out of the Hawks. His dominant performance also took the energy out of the Chase Center postgame, causing a power shortage that shut down the wifi in the arena.
It was another magnificent performance by Curry as he became the third Warriors player in franchise history to record at least 50 points and 10 assists. The other two were Wilt Chamberlain in 1963 and Rick Barry in 1974.
The Warriors record now stands at 9-1. Next, they face the Minnesota Timberwolves for the seventh game of their eight-game homestand.
