Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr admits they will ‘desperately' need D'Angelo Russell in the upcoming NBA season.

The Warriors will enter the 2019-20 season as a playoff team but not a title contender. After all, they lost Kevin Durant to the Brooklyn Nets this offseason, while All-Star sharpshooter Klay Thompson is expected to be out for the most part, if not for the whole 2019-20 campaign.

With the obvious lack of firepower, Kerr noted that Russell will play a key role for the team. He is also hoping for a seamless transition to the Dubs for the one-time All-Star guard.

Kerr, looking grizzled yet suave, also stated that the loss of both Durant and Thompson will surely lead to an increased role for Stephen Curry and Russell, who recently minted a max contract with the team.

Only time will tell how Curry and Russell will coexist in the backcourt, especially from a defensive standpoint. Thompson is surely a better defender than either of them, though Curry is no slouch in the crucible of playoff basketball.

The Warriors will still be formidable, but they are no longer the boogeyman of the NBA they used to be. That title now likely belongs to either the LA Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers or Philadelphia 76ers.
