Andrew Wiggins' status moving forward remains unknown as he continues to be away from the Golden State Warriors. If he does end up sitting out the rest of the reason, however, Steve Kerr has a plan in mind.
Speaking to reporters ahead of their showdown with the San Antonio Spurs in Friday–which is the 21st game Wiggins missed–Kerr revealed that he'll likely keep Donte DiVincenzo in the starting lineup entering the postseason in place of Wiggins, per CJ Holmes of San Francisco Chronicles.
In the 20 games that Wiggins has missed entering Friday, DiVincenzo has started for the Warriors and averaged 9.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He has also been impactful defensively, making 1.3 steals in that span.
The Warriors have struggled a bit with Wiggins out, going 11-9 in the past 20 contest, but they have been able to stay within the Top 6 of the conference as well.
For what it's worth, while Steve Kerr said there's no update when it comes to Wiggins' return, it should be noted that reports emerged earlier on Friday that the veteran forward has returned to the Bay Area. Wiggins apparently spent the majority of the past few weeks out of town but is now back.
That doesn't mean he's returning or close to return as he deals with serious personal issues. Nonetheless, it is certainly a positive development that should only raise the hopes of fans with regards to his potential comeback.
