The Golden State Warriors will continue to have Steve Kerr calling shots for the team. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Warriors are merely ironing out the final details of Kerr’s extension deal with the team.

Three-time NBA championship coach Steve Kerr is finalizing a contract extension that will make him one of the highest paid coaches in the NBA, league sources tell ESPN.

Although Wojnarowski’s report did not specify the amount and length of Kerr’s new contract, it’s expected to be a lucrative one, considering the success the team has had since the former NBA point guard took the post in 2014. That year, he signed a five-year deal worth $25 million to succeed Mark Jackson as the Warriors’ bench boss. Golden State obviously does not want to worry about Kerr’s status next year, so the Warriors are opting to with it now by giving the 52-year-old coach a new contract.

Warriors owner Joe Lacob promised that the team’s management would ensure that Kerr is going to get an extension this summer, per Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

“We'll get it done this summer,” Lacob said after the Warriors swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. “Let him rest a little bit. But we'll get it done. He wants to be with us. We want him long term.

Since taking over as the mentor of the Warriors, Kerr has accrued a 365-63 regular season record. In the playoffs, he’s guided Golden State to a 63-20 slate. Of course, he’s also steered the team to four consecutive NBA Finals and three NBA titles, including this year’s sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
