Why The White Sox Will Cover The Spread/Win

Drew Thorpe is making his MLB debut, and he very much deserved the promotion to the big leagues. What is surprising is Thorpe will be promoted straight from Double-A Birmingham. Nonetheless, Thorpe was able to pitch to the tune of a 1.35 ERA in AA this season. in 60 innings pitched, Thorpe allowed opponents to bat just .170 off him while striking out 56. He has very good stuff, and the White Sox felt it was major league ready. He needs to continue to dominate Tuesday if the White Sox want to win this game.

The good news for Thorpe is he is facing one of the weaker offenses in the MLB for his debut. Firstly, the Mariners lead the MLB in strikeouts by a large margin. Along with that, the Mariners have the fourth-highest whiff percentage. Secondly, Seattle has the third-worst batting average, sixth-worst slugging percentage, and the lowest xBA in the MLB. Thorpe has a very good matchup for his debut, and he should be able to dominate this game.

Why The Mariners Will Cover The Spread/Win

Seattle is not the best offensive team, but they do some things well. In fact, Seattle has the 10th-best barrel percentage, fourth-best hard hit percentage, and fourth-highest average exit velocity in the MLB. They make solid contact, it just does not seem to drop for them. They need to just stick with it, and cut down on the strikeouts. If they can continue to make some hard contact in this game, they should be able to score a few runs and win this game.

Bryan Woo has been lights out in his six starts this season. His ERA, WHIP, K/BB ratio, and opponent batting average are all elite. He is showing no signs of slowing down either. For this game, Woo is facing the worst team in the MLB. The White Sox are last in batting average, last in slugging percentage, and they are last in runs scored by a large margin. Woo should have no problem shutting down the White Sox in this game and leading the Mariners to a win.

Final White Sox-Mariners Prediction & Pick

I really like Drew Thorpe, but this is his MLB debut. He is also skipping Triple-A, which is not an easy thing to do. The White Sox are also going up against Bryan Woo, and he is pitching like one of the best pitchers in the MLB right now. For that reason, I will take the Mariners to win this game.
