Two-time All-Star Bradley Beal is, to say the least, having an unfortunate season. With Friday night’s loss against the Utah Jazz, the Washington Wizards are now staring at a dismal .362 losing record. The 26-year-old shooting guard has even clinched an unwanted record, joining Walt Bellamy, Wilt Chamberlain, and Allen Iverson with 7 straight 40-point games, all resulting in losses.

Beal now averages 45 points over four games despite losing 129-119. He again led his team in the matchup, racking up 42 points, ten assists, and five rebounds. With Washington dropping four of five recent matchups, however, he unfortunately joins Bellamy and Chamberlain once more as the third player to lose seven straight in a season.

Beal has been doing everything for his team, averaging 30.1 points and 6 assists this season, both career-highs. Despite this, the shooting guard was notably snubbed from the recent All-Star selection. It’s certainly more frustrating that despite the season-long offensive explosion, Washington is now merely at 21-37 after Friday night.

The game also saw Wizards center Thomas Bryant follow Beal’s 42 with 16 points off the bench. Japanese rookie Rui Hachimura, meanwhile, finished with 15 points and 7 rebounds.

Utah’s first-time All-Star Donovan Mitchell, on the other hand, led his team to a much-needed win with 30 points. Fellow All-Star Rudy Gobert then took care of the defensive end, pouring in three steals and four blocks.

Notably, however, despite such a seemingly low record, the Wizards are ninth in the East, five games behind the 26-32 Brooklyn Nets. With such a top-heavy conference headlined by a historic 51-8 Milwaukee Bucks, all hope is not lost for the struggling D.C. team.
