It was recently announced that Washington Wizards superstar John Wall is expected to be out for at least another 12 months due to an Achilles injury.

In a recent interview with ESPN, Wall admitted that his competitive drive to play through injuries may have now gotten the better of him.

“I guess God is telling me something,” Wall said Friday night about the ruptured Achilles tendon that will force him to miss at least the majority of the 2019-20 season. “To sit down and get yourself fully healthy. I've played through injuries my whole career. I know a lot of people who played through injuries and don't sit down. That's one thing I don't like to do. If something that's nagging or not broken, I want to play. I guess it kind of caught up to me.”

Playing through injuries is not at all uncommon in the NBA. As a matter of fact, in an extremely grueling 82-game regular season (not to mention the Playoffs), a good number of players often suit up despite not being one hundred percent healthy.

As he pointed out, Wall is exactly that, and unfortunately, his body finally gave out on him.

The good news for Wall is that he is just 28. He is still in his prime, and despite the prospect of missing the entirety of next season, he still has a good number of years ahead of him.

Achilles injuries are indeed tough, but if there's anyone who can get through this with flying colors then it has to be Wall.
