The Memphis Grizzlies were hit by an influx of injuries last season and had to file for the NBA hardship exemption to sign players to suit up for them during games.

Their main players last season with the likes of Marc Gasol, Mike Conley, Mario Chalmers and Brandan Wright were all forced on the sidelines to watch their team field a total of 23 players towards the end of last year's campaign.

But despite all the adversity the team had to deal with, they still wound up with a winning record and made it to the playoffs. There were also players they signed from the D-League that showed their wares and gave a good account for themselves.

One of them is point guard, Xavier Munford who appeared for the Grizzlies in 14 games and averaged 5.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists.

Having played decent amount of games in his NBA stint last season, he has now been given a chance to crack a roster spot after signing a training camp deal with the Los Angeles Clippers. This according to Shams Charania of The Vertical:

Prior to his 14-game stint in Memphis, the 24-year-old had played for the Maine Red Claws and the Bakersfield Jam. He also has experience in the NBA summer league, having played for the Los Angeles Lakers squad in 2015.

Though the Clippers already have 15 guaranteed contracts, the signing of Munford gives them another active body and options for the point guard spot. There has also been chatter that surfaced that Doc Rivers‘ team might be looking into dumping Raymond Felton‘s contract to give the Clippers some cap space flexibility.

Should the Rhode Island product make the team's final roster, he is expected to play a small role off the bench behind Chris Paul and Austin Rivers. The minutes may be few and far between but the knowledge and mentoring from one of the best in league in Paul, will serve his game well. If he doesn't make it beyond the off-season, it still gives him a chance to showcase his game and make himself available for other teams that may have openings in the future.
