The New York Yankees have placed catcher Gary Sanchez on the 10-day injured list as a result of a strained left groin, via MLB Trade Rumors. The Yankees have called up fellow backstop Kyle Higashioka from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as a corresponding move.

Sanchez played during Tuesday night's win over the Minnesota Twins, going 0-for-5. While the Yankees have not yet provided any sort of timeline for Sanchez, manager Aaron Boone will likely address the injury before the Yanks play the Twins again on Wednesday evening.

This marks Sanchez's second trip to the injured list this season, as he also missed a couple of weeks due to a calf strain back in April.

Sanchez has been mired in a pretty miserable slump and has gone 0-for-18 over his last four games, and for the month of July as a whole, he has slashed just .102/.172/.186.

On the season overall, Sanchez owns a slash line of .229/.299/.508 with 24 home runs and 58 RBI over 328 plate appearances, making the All-Star team as a result.

The 26-year-old signed with the Yankees as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic back in 2009 and ultimately made his major-league debut in 2015, going hitless in two at bats.

Then, the following year, Sanchez played in 53 games and slashed .299/.376/.657 with 20 long balls and 42 RBI across 229 trips to the plate, flashing his potential.

He would proceed to make the All-Star team during his first full season in 2017, slashing .278/.345/.531 with 33 dingers and 90 RBI through 525 plate appearances.

However, Sanchez had a horrendous 2018 campaign, slashing just .186/.291/.406 with 18 homers.
