MLB trade season is upon us! With the 2022 MLB trade deadline approaching, teams are gearing up to make moves. The New York Yankees have reportedly emerged as a serious contender for Andrew Benintendi, per MLB insider Mark Feinsand. Acquiring Benintendi would upgrade the Yankees roster and help solve their Joey Gallo problem.

New York acquired Gallo a season ago from the Texas Rangers. However, the slugging outfielder has faltered during his time with the Yankees. Gallo is hitting just over .160 with .642 OPS. And his usual consistent on-base ability has disappeared as well, as Gallo is reaching base at a lackluster .291 clip.

As a result, the Yankees are prepared to move on from Joey Gallo. It was previously rumored that New York may opt to include Gallo in an Andrew Benintendi deal. But the rebuilding Kansas City Royals would be unlikely to take on his contract. Nonetheless, there is still a good chance Gallo gets moved at some point.

Meanwhile, Benintendi offers versatility to the Yankees lineup. New York's offense is defined by powerful sluggers. Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo, and Matt Carpenter are all threats to leave the yard at any given moment. However, Benintendi is a high-average batter who gets on base at a consistent rate.

The Royals' All-Star is slashing an excellent .319/.389/.402 as of this story's publication. Benintendi would be a tremendous option to hit in front of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton at the top of the lineup.

However, this deal is not done yet. There are plenty of other interested suitors ahead of the 2022 MLB trade deadline. The Yankees will need to present the Royals with a worthwhile offer in order to land Andrew Benintendi.
