The New York Yankees have entered this MLB offseason looking to make major moves to return them to the World Series. They have been competing over the past couple of years, but have not had quite enough talent to put themselves over the top.

According to a report from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Yankees have been the “most active” in trade talks for Milwaukee Brewers star closer Josh Hader.

The Yankees have been the most active pursuer of Hader, sources said, but a deal with any club remains unlikely. The Brewers understandably want a lot for Hader, who is 25, under club control for four more seasons and projected by MLBTradeRumors.com to earn $4.6 million in his first crack at arbitration.

In addition to the Yankees, the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers have shown interest in Hader. He is one of the most dominant closers in baseball and it is a bit surprising that the Brewers are open to moving him. New York, however, would be a perfect landing spot.

Last season with the Brewers in 61 games, Hader ended up compiling a 2.62 ERA to go along with 37 saves and 138 strikeouts. If Milwaukee does end up trading Hader this offseason, the Yankees seem like the front-runner.

All of that being said, the Yankees are obviously shooting big this offseason. They have already signed star starting pitcher Gerrit Cole to a record-breaking deal and adding Hader would be a massive addition as well. New York will be a fun team to watch in 2020.
