The New York Yankees are the best team in baseball. They are well over .500 and hold a commanding lead in the AL East. But New York has World Series aspirations so they don't want to become complacent. The Yankees are going to be players at the 2022 MLB trade deadline. But what is their biggest need?

New York's main under performers have been Joey Gallo and Aaron Hicks. Gallo is slashing an unsightly .165/.276/.330 with a miserable .606 OPS. His 9 home runs simply do not make up for the lack of overall productivity. Hicks has been better… but he is still laboring mightily. He has slashed .218/.338/.284 with a .622 OPS.

The Yankees main outfield core consists of Joey Gallo, Aaron Hicks, and a guy named Aaron Judgewho happens to be pretty good. Giancarlo Stanton can also play outfield but the team prefers him at DH.

So New York's main need at the 2022 MLB trade deadline is clear. The Yankees need to acquire outfielders. and according to MLB insider John Heyman, the team is already looking for outfield help. Heyman wrote an article for the New York Post and listed potential trade candidates for the Yankees.

Naturally, Juan Soto would be a dream acquisition. But the Nationals are not expected to move the outfielder this season. Heyman then listed the Royals' Andrew Benintendi, Orioles' Anthony Santander, and the Cubs' Ian Happ has possible fits. Pirates' outfielder Bryan Reynolds would also make sense for New York.

Whoever they end up targeting, outfield is clearly the main need for the Yankees.
