The Indiana Pacers are beginning their rebuild with the sixth overall pick. After falling down one spot in the 2022 NBA Draft Lottery, they will look to add a future star as they embark on the future.

The Pacers are in an interesting spot in the draft. They are out of reach from the top three prospects (Paolo Banchero, Chet Holmgren and Jabari Smith Jr.) and aren't in a position to draft Jaden Ivey or Shaedon Sharpe, who many people see as the next two best players. There isn't a strong consensus on who should be picked after those five players.

Indiana has a need for defense. Their post-trade deadline offense was actually pretty decent while their defense was the very worst in the league. Still, for their first-rounder, they should primarily look for the best player they can get. They have a second-round pick that they can use to add defense.

3 best options for Pacers after getting 6th pick at 2022 NBA Draft Lottery

3. Dyson Daniels

Putting a tall playmaker next to Tyrese Haliburton could add an exciting wrinkle to the Pacers' offense. Daniels is just that type of player and brings even more skills to the table.

As the lead playmaker on G League Ignite, the Australian 19-year-old averaged 11.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.  He has very promising playmaking instincts and can get after it on defense. His scoring came heavily from slashing, where he has shown some creative finishes.

Daniels may struggle to score at the next level because he isn't super quick or a great shooter. Josh Giddey — another tall Australian with point-guard-like attributes — thriving as a rookie with those same concerns is encouraging but Daniels is not guaranteed to adjust as well as Giddey did.

While his offensive game matures, Daniels can be an impactful defender that feeds off of Haliburton or leads fast breaks.

2. Keegan Murray

Because he is nearly 22 years old and not a physically imposing athlete, Murray may have one of the lower ceilings among the top prospects in this year's NBA Draft. However, the 6-foot-8 forward also has one of the highest floors and was one of the most productive college players in the country last season.

Murray averaged 23.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, 1.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 55.4 percent from the field, 39.8 percent from deep and 74.7 percent from the free-throw line. He is a brilliant scorer in the post and is a tough, versatile defender. Indiana keeping Myles Turner should help Murray thrive in the post.

The concern for Murray is whether he can create enough of his own offense. Yes, 23.5 points per game in college is fantastic but he doesn't inspire as much confidence in his iso/face-up game as one would want for their potential leading scorer of the future. He also isn't a strong playmaker. His strength lies in his post-up game, which may not translate against bigger opponents and smarter defenses.

The Pacers may need more high-level creators on offense around Murray in order to unlock his potential. As a defender and versatile linchpin on offense, though, he could help elevate the high-level players around him.

1. AJ Griffin

Griffin is a player with pretty strong upside who can contribute right away as a 3-and-D guy. As one of the younger players in the draft class with an impressive frame – standing 6-foot-6 and 220 pounds with a seven-foot wingspan — Griffin can be Haliburton's go-to wing moving forward.

In his lone season at Duke, Griffin averaged 10.4 points per game while shooting 49.3 percent from the field and 44.7 percent from 3. He showed the ability to shoot off the dribble in addition to the catch and showed the potential to take it into the teeth of the defense for strong finishes or pull-up jumpers.

Griffin needs to improve his ability to stay in front of ball-handlers in order to make a true impact on defense. He also did not show much consistent playmaking in college. As a scorer, he will have to learn how to either get quicker with his first step, work on making more heavily contested shots, or both.

The Pacers should, at least, find a solid wing with skills that matter in the modern game. At best, they could have a star-level wing.
