NBA Summer League is upon us. It's arrival also signals the time every fan base in the NBA gets to overreact to how their young players perform during the said spectacle. Prime example of this right now: Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren.

Holmgren took the SL stage by storm with a dominant debut, tallying 23 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and a new summer league record six blocks in just over 23 minutes of action.

While obviously it's just summer leagueOKC Thunder fans deserve to have their fun. After two seasons of cellar dweller displays and growing pains, inhaling some of that sweet, sweet hype for just a bit may be warranted.

Here are 3 totally legit reasons Thunder fans can overreact to Chet Holmgren's summer league debut:

3 legit reasons to overreact to Chet Holmgren summer league debut

Holmgren already bringing the trash talk

OKC Thunder fans are well-aware of the promise that former first-round pick Aleksej Pokuševski possesses. His combination of go go gadget arms guard-like abilities make him a tantalizing prospect to watch.

There's a key difference between the two. Poku is somewhat of a fish out of water, coming over from Europe to a land completely foreign to him while wielding a game that's unorthodox to say the least.

Chet Holmgren? The kid has been seeing his highlight mixtapes blow up on Twitter for ages. He's fully embraced the unicorn that he is. Holmgren is unapologetically different, and it shows in his trash talk and All-Summer League confidence:

“Only six? That’s a record? Well, I’m coming to break it again,” said Holmgren after resetting the summer league block record.

Then there was his “little as hell” comment after taking a Jazz defender off the dribble. The Thunder big man muttered it within earshot of the cameras as they were walking back to the bench

Chet Holmgren doesn't give a damn if you think he looks awkward. He's got supreme confidence in himself.

Holmgren is the new Dirk Nowitzki

Yes, this is an undeniable fact. Move over, Dirk fans cause here comes Chet Holmgren. But in all seriousness – and before Dallas Mavericks supporters come at me in the DMs – Chet did pull off a pretty Dirk-like shot preceding his trash talk of the Jazz guard. Check out this sweet move he pulled off:

If any of us could be like Dirk Nowitzki for even just one play on an NBA (Summer League) court, we'd be talking some major trash, too. The side-by-side looks pretty sick as well:

One was in summer league over Jazz wing defender in Vic Law, who's played all of eight games and 62 minutes in the NBA thus far. The other was over Hall-of-Famer Pau Gasol in a playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers. People have been telling me to get a prescription for new glasses, but I see no difference there. Chet Holmgren is Dirk reincarante.

Chet Holmgren took a bite out of Tacko Fall

There are few players more universally beloved than Tacko Fall. The man is the definition of a gentle giant and gets any crowd – even opposing fan bases – excited to see him check into a basketball game.

That's why to see Chet Holmgren put him on the wrong side of his debut highlights was just completely ruthless. Here's Holmgren pulling up right in front of big Tacko, who was left on an island at the top of the key:

Then here is Chet Holmgren denying a man who looks double his size right at the rim:

That was one of two blocks that Holmgren had on Fall in the game en route to a record-breaking six blocks on the night.

Does this prove that Chet Holmgren is a bona fide superstar unicorn in the making? Not exactly. But should Oklahoma City Thunder fans pump the brakes on the Holmgren train for even just a single mile per hour? Absolutely not. Let the Thunder heads have their fun.

Even though realistically one NBA Summer League game doesn't mean much in terms of projecting NBA production, it's still highly encouraging to see a player projected to be raw and a few years away putting up some major stats against some fringe NBA players.
