The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off of their second straight Super Bowl appearance. They have the best quarterback in the league in Patrick Mahomes, a completely revamped offensive line, and a surprisingly good defense. There isn't much to complain about if you are head coach Andy Reid. But the name of the game in the NFL is an improvement, and that applies no matter how good your team is.

The Chiefs don't have many holes, but certain spots on their roster could use some depth. Linebacker, edge rusher, and wide receiver all stand out as position groups that could use additional help before the season starts.

Here are three potential trade candidates for the Chiefs.

Jordan Hicks

Hicks is the premier linebacker available on the trade market. He's coming off of a solid year where he put together 118 tackles and a sack. The University of Texas product is a rangy linebacker who excels against the run but has also shown the ability to keep up in pass coverage. If the Chiefs do land Hicks, he will come into the building as the best linebacker on the team.

Hicks' current employer, the Arizona Cardinals, has already granted Hicks permission to seek a trade. Kansas City is a prime landing spot for any player, as playing there means playing for a Super Bowl. This should be the desired destination for Hicks, and it doesn't seem like Arizona will charge a high price for him. A fourth-round selection should get this deal done.

Derek Barnett

The Chiefs are currently slated to start Taco Charlton and the massively overrated Frank Clark at one of the most important positions in football. A huge upgrade would be pretty useful here, but Kansas City doesn't have the money or the necessary draft capital to make that happen. Instead, the Chiefs should settle for Barnett.

Barnett has never lived up to his first-round selection, but he's a decent player. The former Tennessee Volunteer has shown flashes of great pass rush ability but is often hurt by his less-than-stellar run defense. Putting him in a committee role with the other edge defenders on the Chiefs could be a perfect match for both sides.

Barnett's name has been on the rumor mill for a while now, so it shouldn't be too difficult to entice the Philadelphia Eagles into a trade. Edge rusher is a premium position, so the cost would likely be a mid-round pick.

Christian Kirk

“Speed kills” seems to be the motto in Kansas City, and Christian Kirk would certainly embody that saying. The current Arizona Cardinal is an absolute burner, making him a good fit for the Chiefs. But Kirk isn't only fast. He's a skilled contested-catch receiver as well, which makes him even more appealing. The former Texas A&M Aggie posted 621 receiving yards to go along with six touchdowns last season. Keep in mind that Kirk played in the same offense as DeAndre Hopkins, so he's probably capable of better numbers than what he put up.

The Cardinals just drafted a very similar skillset to Kirk's in Purdue's Rondale Moore. Arizona is also deep at receiver, making Kirk expendable for the right price. The Cardinals might not give him up very easily, but a fourth-round pick would likely land the Chiefs another starting pass-catcher.
