In what is shaping up to become the one of the most significant free agent classes in the history of the sport, Philadelphia 76ers incoming unrestricted free agent Jimmy Butler is definitely one of the biggest names headlining the upcoming frenzy.

Given that he is, in fact, Jimmy Butler, many believe that he will pack up his bags and head to greener pastures following a disappointing end to the season with the Sixers. We respectfully disagree. We believe that Butler will defy the odds and actually re-sign with Philadelphia. Here are three reasons why we think this to be true.

$$$

Regardless of what players might say about loyalty and their incessant desire to win, at the end of the day, it still boils down to the almighty Dollar. Sure, there are a few saints in the league that are willing to take pay cuts for the overall betterment of the team, but in reality, it's not as if they're earning pennies.

Butler, 29, is in his prime and this is going to be the offseason in which he will look to make the most money he has ever made in his career. He has already said previously that he will be seeking a max deal — regardless of which team he ends up signing with — so this will likely be the biggest factor in his decision. For the Sixers, this will come out to the tune of close to $190 million for five years, and given how general manager Elton Brand seems intent on keeping Butler on for the future, it does appear that Philadelphia will be willing to meet Butler's demands.

Philly Loves Them Some Jimmy

Building on the previous point, another thing that might just give Butler the added motivation he needs to put pen to paper with Philadelphia would be the team — and the city's — desire to keep him on.

Let's call a spade a spade here; Butler is not exactly the most lovable figure in the league today. He himself saw to this when he unceremoniously forced his way out of the Minnesota Timberwolves just a few months ago.

Nonetheless, it was the Sixers who showed the most desire to take a risk on an extremely polarizing and an alleged locker room cancer in Butler. They did it then (and in the process parting ways with a couple of important assets in Dario Saric and Robert Covington), and all signs point to the fact that they are more than willing to go all in on Butler again this summer.

Butler is a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve, so having an organization and a whole city who absolutely adores him and wants him to stay — no matter the cost — should convince him to stay on.

The Future is Sunny in Philly

By their extremely high standards, this was indeed a disappointing season for the Sixers. Acquiring Butler and Tobias Harris mid-season was a clear indication of their desire to accelerate The Process. While the season may have ultimately ended in failure, what's stopping them from having another go at it next year? They now have a season under their belt and some added playoffs experience, so surely, they should only get better next year, right?

The general consensus is that Harris will end up going if the Sixers choose to re-sign Butler. However, on paper, Philadelphia can actually afford to re-sign both guys. The team have, in the past, shown a crystal clear indication to extend the deals of both Harris and Butler, and this desire has remains unchanged. If the team succeed in keeping their core four in tact, then there's no telling how good the Sixers are going to be next season.

Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons are only 24 and 22, respectively, and it does not look like either guys have tapped into their full potential just yet. It's scary to think how good these studs are going to be two or three years down the road, and Butler might just be inclined to stay and find out for himself.

Butler is in a great position with Philadelphia right now and as soon as they are able to get over the disappointment of this season, it should be clear that the future remains extremely bright for the Sixers.

Butler will be making arguably the most important decision of his career in the coming weeks. He definitely has a lot of options in front of him, but if I were a betting man, I would put my money on Jimmy signing an extension with the Sixers, and in the process, committing himself to their cause for the foreseeable future.
